First of all, thank you to Alicia at Homes & Hammers for the nomination! It's an honor to be recognized for something I care about so deeply.
My blogging origins.
I started this blog in March, 2017 for a few reasons. First, to share a wealth of knowledge I have that I don't get to use in my every-day professional life. And secondly, to share this life that brings me so much joy and contentment with others in the hope that they too will find the same peace through my stories. Additionally, I found out early this year that my border collie, Teague, (my sidekick of the last decade, my first love, my everything) has lymphoma. This blog has been a way to focus that heartbroken energy into something positive and full of good vibes. This blog has helped my heart remain strong, and kept my mind quiet. Today, Teague is thriving through the support of both traditional and holistic veterinary care. All I ever want is one more day with him, and I keep getting them. May the good vibes keeping coming. ❤︎
My professional background is in design and photography, and my passions are in plants and animals. This blog is the perfect outlet to let both of those things come together as one.
Words of wisdom for starting a blog.
First, follow the dream, not the dollar. While a lot of bloggers make a ton of money, most do not. It is possible to turn a blog into a form of income, but it's a slow and delicate process. You have to be dedicated to the journey if you're going to make it work. Enjoy the process, and always focus on what makes your heart happy.
Second, spend time on the content and keep it genuine. Stock photography exists and is useable, but genuine photography speaks so much louder. Always work to improve your efforts. If you don't write well, or have any idea how a [real, not cell phone] camera works, learn. Learn all of it, and work daily to get awesome at it. Take baby steps. Enjoy the dance, but make it your dance.
My turn to pay it forward.
